Russian Charities

Befrienders International originated from the Telephone Samaritans which had been founded to befrend people who felt suicidal. There are now branches in some towns in the Former Soviet Union.

Child Aid supports humanitarian work with children in Russia and some of the Republics of the former Soviet Union: Belarus, Moldova and the Ukraine.

St Petersburg Russia- This is a recently formed Charity set up to benefit the Children of St Petersburg Russia.

Based in the UK, SGF supports humanitarian work in Russia, especially that initiated by Orthodox parishes.

This was founded over 50 years ago by a Belgian Roman Catholic priest, Fr. Werenfried van Straaten. The aid work is global, but for many years there was a focus on the USSR and Eastern Europe.
